Relief work beginnings...

I have begun a process which may or may not bring me into the world of relief organizations and volunteerism. I have emailed some folks in the Balkans about connecting with them next spring and helping out. I would love to do it and the idea has always appealed to me.

I am also making a decision to leave my current home group and moving across the border, closer to home. My sponsor thinks it is a good idea, seeing as my contact with the 'new' group is more solid that the other. I see and hang out with these other folks a lot and it seems a natural change for me.

The New York State convention last weekend solidified this idea for me. I gleaned the knowledge of a more dedicated and deeper type of service to my home group and staying in the local area where I can be of assistance to others nearer to home. In this light I have discovered that my new group does not have a General Service Representative and I think I am ready to do the job. It's a small district and I have been to several GSR meetings in the area already. No sweat, as far as I am concerned.

I do have a commitment already in action at the old group, though. I picked up a coffee job last month and still have two months left to go. I would love it if someone were to pick it up for me, but I won't count on it. No expectations...

Anyway, that's the buzz these days...

New things and so forth...

I haven't posted ion a while, and I apologize, but that's just the way things go. All's well, but I am very busy with school, the home life, and a reluctant and, I think, somewhat dim sponsee.

Last night before the meeting I was working a crossword puzzle with a friend, and doing well, I might add. At one point The Sponsee says, "Did you ever think of going on "Jeopardy"? I said no, and asked why. His response was that I would probably do well because "my brain is clogged up with useless trivia and knowledge." I told him that so far any knowledge I may have has not been useless, which ended the conversation.

I mean, really. What an idiot. Still, I have to turn this over as well and pretend it never happened. He's a sick person, really, incredibly coddled as an only child with not much in terms of social skills. Plus he's on pain meds, which, while they are controlled as a time release patch, are upsetting his brain and thinking. In fact, his brain is probably the organ that is clogged.

He's supposed to call in 3 minutes to check in, at which point I will force him to read pages 63-64 of the Big Book.

Maybe time for something new...

I am realizing that I have given out this blog address to enough people that it is no longer anonymous. In that light I am going to begin a new blog, one where I can let it all hang out. This one will be a link for pictures and usual day-to-day happenings.

It will be interesting to see how the comments change. My new blog will be with a different host and all that which means a new look as well. I will link some of you into it, but only a choice few...

I am working hard on my paper and I am about halfway done, not including editing. My photo project is going well and I was given an estimate of how much the matting, framing and so forth will cost...a lot, but it will be worth it and I can write off the bill as an education expense. I will be showing 13 pictures. The rest of the presentation will be a lecture and PowerPoint slide show lasting around 20 minutes. I think I can do really well. It isn't due until October 1st, but I would like to have it finished by September 1st so I can worry about for a month.

I'll post some more pics on the Picasa page as time moves along. 1,950 pictures is a lot to sort through.

I have paid for my new desktop and should have it by next week sometime. I am excited about this. Thankfully it will be XP, as Vista is still too buggy to be a success.

Stay in touch!
